The Oteley Estate is situated on the shores of the mere in Ellesmere. The estate has been in the family for over 500 years and has seen many changes from lavish country house to army hospital camp. In recent years however the 2,000 acres of land has become home to two stunning herds of native breeds of british cattle; Beef Shorthorn and Highland.
Here at Oteley, we believe happy, healthy animals produce the best meat, and our meat boxes are testament to that, with a delicious selection of quality meat also available in many of the Ellesmere Town Stores. Our Highlands our purely grass-fed, and are free to roam the lush pasture all year round.
We are advocates of extensive farming, not intensive, keeping the environment’s best interests at heart. Through being purely grass fed and not relying on cereals and grains to be grown for their consumption, they help to protect natural ecosystems and wildlife habitat.
There are minimal food miles with our beef. These animals are born here, they stay here, and then they are sold directly to customers and local shops

Events and Open Garden
On the shores of the Mere at Ellesmere is the beautiful location of Oteley Garden. Accessed via the rolling parkland and through the original Stable Yard, the 10 acre garden is home to an array of fantastic trees, shrubs and extensive lawn. Within the garden are many features from the original house including a boathouse, tower and swiss cottage. The garden is one of a handful of gardens that first opened in 1927 when the National Garden Scheme was launched and has continued to open once a year to raise money for nursing charities ever since. Moolah is a fine food retailer and café and home to the Tourist Information service for Ellesmere.
Moolah celebrates food and drink with a particular focus on local produce that is available to buy in our shop (think a mini-Fortnum & Mason vibe) and served in our licenced café bar. Wonder at the conversion of this former Natwest bank into a food and drink-lovers heaven and delight in the unique décor of the comfortable “snug”.
Moolah is a friendly and welcoming establishment at the heart of the town of Ellesmere. A sociable place to meet and eat and drink, catering for meat-eaters, vegetarians, dairy-free, gluten free and vegan diets.
Open six days a week (closed on Wednesdays) with opening hours of 8am – 6pm on weekdays and 9.30am – 6pm on weekends. Disabled access. Bicycle parking. Dog friendly.

The Boathouse nestles alongside the stunningly beautiful glacial lake in Ellesmere & is an inspiration for many of the dishes we create in our Boathouse kitchen!
What do we offer? Our café opens from 8.30, Sit inside with our panoramic views or outside beside the water. Our Bistro with waiter service opens at 8.30 for breakfast serving till 11.30 & then opens for lunch at noon until 15:00 where you are welcome to eat in the main room overlooking the lake or outside on our decking. Tapas & Early suppers available until 16:00 Wednesday & Thursday and then 20:00 on Friday & Saturday evenings, last bookings are from 19.30. well behaved dogs are welcome in most areas but please respect other customers who may not share your love!

Had a lovely bit of lunch at Coco Coffee Bar today! From start to finish we were made to feel very welcome by the lovely owner and all the staff. I had a tuna and cheese panini which was delicious. Also had a slice of the lovely chocolate cake too – couldn’t resist! Will definitely be back soon!
Pete’s Sandwich Bar, is a small friendly family run business with over 35 years experience in the Café trade. Started by Pete Vermeulen in 1975 and now run by his daughter, Christy.
We provide daily fresh food to many local people and tradesmen, also passing holiday trade such as Canal Barge holiday makers, seating just over 30 people we can meet your needs!
We produce a wide daily variety of foods, from our own in house homemade hot and cold food menu, soups and cakes.
Along with daily fresh produce from Vermeulen’s of Ellesmere all of these fantastic foods are available to sit in, take away or even under our canopy outside should the weather be accommodating!!!
