About the Event:

Celebrate the vibrant works of local artisans, groups and residents at the three-day Ellesmere Summer Festival! Spread throughout the town, the festivities will be centered around the picturesque canal wharf and historic canal workshops.

The festival kicks off with n Artisan market at the Market Hall on Scotland Street, starting at 11:00 AM. Admission is free. Stroll down to the canalside to admire the canal traders in their decorated narrow boats, offering traditional cheeses, chutneys, and fine examples of canal ware. Beware of the Pirate Boat and its unruly crew!

Also commencing on Friday is the Sausage and Cider Festival at the Cricket Club on Birch Road. Enjoy a wide range of ciders from 12:00 PM each day.

Saturday, September 7th

The artisan market will reopen at the Market Hall at 10:00 AM. Additionally, the Town Hall will feature a large model railway exhibition with nearly twenty layouts of various gauges, trade stalls, and refreshments. Admission charges apply, and doors open at 10:00 AM.

Down by the canalside, the narrow boat traders will be back. The Canal and River Trust will operate a free narrow boat shuttle service from the Wharf to the historic workshops nestled in the fork of the Llangollen Canal and the Ellesmere Arm. The workshops, where Thomas Telford once had his offices, will have the forge in operation and the pattern shop open for viewing. Other canal-oriented activities are planned as well.

Throughout the day at the canal wharf, there will be a charity market starting at 10:00 AM, supporting local charities. Street entertainers will wander around the town center, and you can marvel at the Fairground organ. Enjoy a wide variety of tasty foodstuffs from various catering facilities.

Sunday, September 8th

The Artisan market will continue in the Market Hall, and the Railway exhibition will be open in the Town Hall. The day at the canal wharf begins with a combined churches open-air service at 10:00 AM, followed by a classic car show showcasing the pride and joy of local classic car owners. If you own a classic car, bring it along and join in the fun!

All the canalside attractions will be present throughout the day.
